Als nieuwe, solo studio had ik geen portfolio om op terug te vallen — de website zelf moest het bewijs zijn. Geen sjabloon, geen drag-and-drop tool: alles met de hand gebouwd.

As a brand new solo studio, I had no portfolio to fall back on — the website itself had to be the proof. No template, no drag-and-drop builder: everything built by hand.

Een site die aanvoelt zoals ik werk: direct, doordacht, met interactie die ergens voor dient. Dark/light mode, een eigen cursor, paginaovergangen — functioneel, nooit puur decoratief.

A site that feels like how I work: direct, considered, with interaction that serves a purpose. Dark/light mode, a custom cursor, page transitions — functional, never purely decorative.

Van merkvertaling naar een volledige meerdere-pagina-architectuur, daarna de interactielaag (overgangen, cursor, scrollgedrag), en pas als laatste alle content zelf herschreven tot het klopte.

From brand translation to a full multi-page architecture, then the interaction layer (transitions, cursor, scroll behaviour), and only at the end rewriting all the content until it felt right.

Geen simpel geïnverteerd kleurtje: elke pagina is in beide standen apart doorontworpen — eigen contrast, eigen accenten, eigen sfeer. De voorkeur van de bezoeker wordt onthouden, dus wie eenmaal kiest hoeft dat niet opnieuw te doen op de volgende pagina.

Not a simple inverted colour tint: every page is separately refined in both modes — its own contrast, its own accents, its own mood. The visitor's preference is remembered, so once someone picks a mode they don't have to choose again on the next page.

Naast het uiterlijk zit het gedrag overal doordacht: écht tweetalig (NL/EN, elk stukje tekst apart vertaald — geen automatische vertaling), volledig responsief van een klein telefoonscherm tot een breed desktopscherm, paginaovergangen die soepel in elkaar overlopen in plaats van hard te herladen, en interactie die altijd iets communiceert — een custom cursor die meldt wat er onder je muis gebeurt, een voortgangsbalk die precies laat zien waar je bent, en een contactformulier dat in drie korte stappen naar het juiste antwoord toewerkt in plaats van één lange, onoverzichtelijke lijst velden.

Beyond the look, the behaviour is considered everywhere too: genuinely bilingual (NL/EN, every piece of copy translated by hand — no auto-translate), fully responsive from a small phone screen up to a wide desktop, page transitions that flow smoothly into each other instead of hard-reloading, and interaction that always communicates something — a custom cursor that signals what's under it, a progress bar that shows exactly where you are, and a contact form that works toward the right answer in three short steps instead of one long, overwhelming list of fields.

Bouwen voor jezelf is anders dan bouwen voor een klant — niemand anders bepaalt wanneer het "goed genoeg" is. Dat bleek zowel de vrijheid als de valkuil.

Building for yourself is different from building for a client — no one else decides when it’s "good enough." That turned out to be both the freedom and the trap.
